MAYNARD AND WYMAN WIN BIG AGAIN AT AOF!
Art Of Fighting put on another fantastic fight card on Saturday. SuckerPunch fighters Phillip “The Wicked” Wyman and Levon “The Maynman” Maynard were invited back to the promotion to face off against some tough competition.

First up for SuckerPunch was Wyman who is coming off a victory in the last AOF against Carlos “The Rooster” Gonzales. Phillip’s opponent this time was Eric “Ginja Ninja” Haritakis.
aof3c
Wyman was well trained for this one, weighing in at 170lbs on the button while his opponent weighed in 3 pounds over at 173lbs.
aof3d
The fight started with the two squaring up and throwing blows in the center of the ring.
aof3j
Haritakis forced the fight up to the cage wall where Wyman was able to land some vicious knees to the body followed by and uppercut that dropped Haritakis to the ground.
aof3k
Phillip quickly pounced and transitioned into a deep triangle choke forcing Haritakis to tap out at 1:30 into the first round.
aof3l
This puts Wyman at 5-2-0 with a 3 fight win streak since he’s been with SuckerPunch Entertainment.
aof3e
“It’s so good to see Phil doing well!” says his manager Brian Butler. “I remember speaking with Phil’s coach Buck Grant when he told me, ‘Phillip just needs someone to believe in him’, well a lot of people believe now!” referring to Wyman’s growing fan base and support from his fellow United States Marines.

Up next was the most anticipated fight of the night. Putting one of American Top Team’s most talked about rising stars, Nicolae “Armor” Cury up against Levon “The Maynman” Maynard.
aof3a
This was a big fight for Maynard who was coming off a loss to Kyle Baker in the UWC. “When the opponents were put on the table we were told that Curry was the guy nobody wanted to fight.” said Butler. “Nicolae is one of those guys that has so many credentials that it would scare anyone.” referring to Curry’s BJJ Black Belt , Judo 3rd degree Black belt, being a 5x Brazilian National Champ, Absolute National Brazilian Champ, South American Champ, and 15x Brazilian State Champ. Curry is also one of ATT’s instructors and has has not been been taken past the first minute in any of his fights including his debut in EliteXC.
aof3b
At the weigh-ins Maynard tipped the scales at 170lbs while Nicolae came in at 168lb which was surprising since Nicolae was the taller fighter.

Right from the bell this fight was a battle.
aof3g
Maynard caught Curry early in the first with a hard shot that broke Curry’s nose.
aof3h
Maynard’s stand up was overwhelming and it did not look like Curry was going to answer the bell for the second round. Curry being the warrior that he is dug deep and rose for the second round. The Sarasota crowd roared with excitement knowing the were witnessing what turned out to be fight of the night.

Curry was able to mount some offense but Maynard was simply too much and continued to pour it on, winning a unanimous decision and giving Curry his first loss of his professional career.
aof3i
For their efforts Maynard and Curry both won Fight Of The Night bonuses.

On April 25, 2009, the cast and crew from the first Rumble at Robarts returns, with a few twists. January 24 was a great event with the best MMA fights Sarasota has ever seen. In April, a lot of these great fighters return.

Phil “The Wicked” Wyman- Wyman fought a tough Carlos “The Rooster” Gonzales on January 24 and won by an armbar. At AOF2 The wicked will square off with Eric “Ginja Ninja” Haritakis- Eric is one of AOF’s most promising prospects and this fight should be very exciting for the fans. “The Wicked” is on a 3 fight win streak and has been soundly finishing his opponents in the first round of his last 2 fights.aof2c

At 2 wins and no losses, American Top Team stand out Nicolae “Armour” Cury faces our man, “The Maynman” on April 25th. Maynard, who mowed down IFL veteran Travis Cox, a game opponent, at AOF1 looks to get back on a win streak against Cury. “I’m in this sport to fight the best and test myself. Nicolae is someone people are buzzing about and a lot of people are ducking him, so I want this fight!” Maynard says.aof2b

Thanks again to everybody who has commented, also for all the support. LEEEEVon is a beast, let me tell you that he fought a tough fight. From the start Curry was a class act, he showed up late for the weigh-ins and immediately appologized for the traffic hold up. That speaks volumes for his character. Known for his striking Levon proved that his ground game is one of the best in the buisness, for a large part of the 1st round he defended his position from the bottom as well as controling Curry from the top. No doubt we will see him in larger shows soon. Great job brother I am so proud of you.
I would like to thank Knock Out Brand for sponsoring me for this fight. My wife for letting me play. My Florida Fans for showing up in masses! The Lord, once again through Him anything is possible. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come you (any danger). Psalms 91:7 “protection”

  28. Phillip "The Wicked" Wyman says:

    April 28th, 2009at 6:17 am(#)

That is true Eric was a good challenge, not taking anything from his game, he just got caught…We all do. But last Saturday I was a bit more polished. Great job Eric, I already expressed my appreciation inside the ring and after the fight towards him. He is a class act and has much potential. Keep an eye out for him!;)
    Stay Wicked!

  29. LeVon says:

    April 28th, 2009at 8:17 am(#)

Wicked pretty much covered everything I wanted to say in his posting above. My opponent was a class act and a great fighter. I am glad I had the opportunity to compete against him.

Also, I want to thank Wicked for helping us get around in the rental throughout Florida. I don’t know how we would have made it around without him lol.

Of course, I want to thank the sponsors (Knockout Brand Clothing, Demigod, and Critical) for the support and everyone here for all the comments.
