Freddy Assuncao, brother of UFC vet Junior Assuncao and twin brother of top ranked WEC contender Raphael, will make his MMA debut in the UWC against Felipe “Sertanejo” Arantes. Expect fireworks in this fight. Both fighters look to keep the fight on their feet. Freddy has never fought MMA at any level but has been training under the watchful eyes of his brothers for years. Freddy’s opponent is listed as 1-2 but don’t be fooled by the numbers. That is just his record in the US. Felipe is a well known fighter in Brazil and has an estimated record of at least 5-1 over there. “This was a concern, but after talking to Freddy and his brothers they are still confident about this fight”, said manager Brian Butler. “You have to remember, Freddy trains day in and day out with Raphael who is ranked as one of the top ten featherweights in the world, and Junior is no slouch either.”

Igor “The Legend” Almeida will face Kris “The Savage” McCray at UWC. Both Almeida and McCray bring undefeated records to the cage. This will be a battle of technique vs power. Not to say that McCray doesn’t have technique, he is a very skilled grappler, but in his previous fights he has been able to overwhelm his opponents with his power. Almeida on the other hand is a decorated BJJ black belt with 5 amateur fights and 6 pro fights under his belt. Almeida has submitted all 11 opponents in the first round. Both of these fighters have a buzz going on about them right now and you can count on them giving us a great show.

Ryan Sturdy will face off against Muay Thai specialist Rashad Woods. Sturdy brings a 14-2-1 record to the cage while his opponent Rashad is 4-2-0. Rashad is coming off of a tough loss to UFC vet WarMachine, but showed he belonged at the top level by his performance. He gave WarMachine all he could handle but eventually lost to a submission. Sturdy is the current Extreme Challenge middleweight champion and coming off victories as a part of the US team at M-1 Challenge and XFO31. Sturdy is a powerful fighter who likes to mix it up and bang with his opponents. This fight has all the makings of being a flat out war pitting the compact brawler vs the long striker.
