In this series of the Suckerpunch Blindside we will be posting daily video blogs from Jeff “Big Frog” Curran leading up to his big fight on April 5th.

This is a huge fight for Curran because a win against a game opponent like Benavidez in his bantamweight debut would send tremors to the top of the division… and a message to the entire sport that the bantam division just changed.

Jeff is going to crush Benavidez no doubt in my mind. Benavidez has very limited range (looks like a midget fighting), and if he tries to get in close with Jeff, he will pay for it dearly.

I remember the show when Mask walked in the Hotel to see Jeff and sunshine. and he yells out “BIG FROG” That was the coolest episode in my opinion. Man, it really doesn’t seem real that he is gone.

    Re: The Diet

I know what you mean. I remember when I was cutting for competition (back in my younger bodybuilding days), cooked plain oat bran/oatmeal would taste like pure sugar – especially the layer that would form on top after you let it sit for a while. The crust from cooking egg whites would taste like potato chips, and a single strand of cooked pasta would taste like licorice. I remember looking forward to going to bed so I could get up and eat….literally living from meal to meal. Eating 5-6 small meals a day, I’d have all my food pre-prepared for the following day. What really drove me nuts were people asking if they could have some of my food.

“Hey Jeff, can I have a few of your Almonds? They look pretty good”.

Just don’t drive yourself crazy by walking down the junk food isle at Food Lion or something.

i’m gonna keep it short today (he says with a 7min blog) easy to get carried away isnt it! My weekly blogs started out two mins on Ave, end of the first year…8 mins hahahahaha

Now with the food…I have mixed seeds which I feed to my budgie, you could try nibbling on Millet, they seem to like it…on second thought, you really oughta stick to your own eating habits I think LOL

I dont purposely add salt to any of my food :) clean cut and boyish looking LOL You will get used to talking to the computer. Imagine that we are sitting in the room with you, when you look into the camera imaging people watching you, you will get used to it, the longer you speak the easier it will come. by the time you fight, we wont be able to shut you up LOL, you’ll be wanting to do several blogs because you’ll finish and then think “damn I could have told them also about x-y-z” happens to me allllll the time

The key with filming when your walking is to go slow, verrrrrra slow, because the camera wont have the stabilizers you have in your head, it will blurr and make your viewers sea sick LOL. Pauses, talk and walk as little as possible, and long pauses, so you walk with a few words, arrive and then say your talking about the ring, stop, focus the camera on the ring moving slightly to get better views, talk about the ring as your stood, move on, etc You’ll get used to it.

Keep recording! I await the rest :)

thanks for checking in on the blogs. plan on letting them become more informative but how much is too much is all i am worried about. I don’t want to share too much with Benavidez camp so i keep it generic. Keep tuned in to suckerpunch and do me a favor and share the website with your friends…thanks

guys…the blue stuff on my hands is from my WEC gloves. it was very hot today in the gym and when you sweat the dye from the blue leather and black leather stain your hands. Kinda sucks but what can you do. they are still blue as i speak. Everything in florida for me is simple. It is way simpler of a life than i am used to. Good thing i have my computer to continue to work on some projects etc…

I will try to get some video clips of me training up online too. however, that is out of my capabilities as just don’t know how. Only this photobooth on my mac is about as advanced as i get.
Mikey, sorry bro, but you had to go and “Get Married” and stuff. Gosh… Enjoy Honeymoon and be thinking of me. (did that sound weird?) you know what i mean bro.

Man these blogs are amazing, very amusing. I like the updates on the weight and where you sitting because I was interested in your weight cut to 135. You plan to get rid of like 8 lbs. of water come weigh ins? I think you will be fine in your fight with Joseph due to your heart, normal training regime, and your visit to ATT will only make you more crisp. I know you got cofidence and you should because you are the better fighter. Best wishes to you.

    Dear Jeff

a note on lighting. When recording video blogs, light should be either infront of you pointing your way, or above you pointing directly down. Never behind you (unless its extremely dull lighting) otherwise you turn into a silhoette

A note on finishing a blog. use a phrase, or something to round off your blog. Something simple, so that you dont kinda stall and not know how to finish, or give some type of oscar acceptance speech.

You are a natural, and you’re already enjoying yourself. Going through your bag was well ace. I cant advise you on what to say or how much to say in regards to training. But I think your on the right lines, say what happened, but dont go into detail too much incase your opponent is watching the blogs LOL. Sorry you had such difficulties with your journal

just one question…am I one of the people you like, or one of the people you dont know hahahahahahaha (you dont have to answer that LMAO) :P

So do you and Mike Brown get along after fighting each other or was it weird training with him? Who got the better end of the sparring or were you going light?

Just kidding, Good luck and I’ll be watching. I know you will stomp him.

I think distilled water is good every now and then for a detox… but it has a tendency to absorb more essential minerals out of your body and makes it more acidic if you drink it a lot, especially if you’re eating less. Yeah… but I’m sure you’re taking good care of yourself.

I am happy you got down here to Florida to train with those dudes because they are pretty hardcore when it comes to conditioning. I do have a question for you though about training at ATT. Do you think coming down to Florida will be a more regular thing in your training? I know you have your gym in Chicago and you will be based there but do you have any future plans to come back for a week or 2 at a time and train with the guys at ATT? Thanks again for all the updates and these blogs are great, I have told some friends about the blogs and they also thoroughly enjoy them. Keep up the great work bro and again good luck on the 5th!

to answer your question, i definatly have plans to come here to prepare for my fights in the future. I have spent some of my free time researching options to bring my family for an extended camp if it is required because my staff at the gym back home is very capable of maintaining our standards without me there during fight prep. It was a great week and alot of guys that fit the size guy i am fighting. Its almost perfect!

Of course you can hit up a private session with me. I can tell you right now that I am not very expensive for private classes, but time has been an issue lately so if i quote you now it may change come time when you come out. I Like to do $80/hr for non members of my school at this point, but this rate is in the process of posibly go up. Just hit me up when you are around and of course i will take care of you. thanks for the interest.

Some general news for everyone, I am happy to be home and had a good day settling back in with the family. Was able to squeeze a 3 mile jog and a 3 mile bike ride in (pulling my Burley with my son Ty in it), so it was a nice day of active rest. Tomorrow let the games continue as i enter my final hard week of training. Lots of media to do as well. Stay tuned…

    Hey Jeff,

I just wqanted to say that the last 2 video blogs were very good and informative. I like how you addressed the whole Miguel Torres conflict. I know you want to not only prove yourself in the 135 lb. division but you want to be the champ and that all the talk is just hype and fun and games. It is good to truly know that the media tries to twist it to be a hometown feud. I really like both you and Miguel you guys are some of my favorite fighters and I wish both of you the best on your upcoming fights on April 5th. I really would love to see the both of you square off eventually to prove who is better. Thank you for the relief I just couldn’t believe you would trash talk anyone you respect that much like Miguel.

I also saw that Bart got added to the April 5th bouts and I also would like to wish him the best of luck on his fight. He has a tough opponent in Anthony Njokuani but I really hope he can rebound from his previous fight with Ricardo Lamas. I know and could see he was frustrated in the fight not only with the fight circumstances (having Crunkilton drop out due to injury on short notice) and Lamas’ fighting style. Bart couldn’t really open up like he wanted to with him. I think this is a great oppurtunity for him to show his true skill against a tough opponent and the fact he is willing to step in on short notice.

Again best wishes to all of the fighters at CMA!

    Korey
