PAT BARRY IS BACK & REP’IN NOLA

May 23 marks the second showing for UFC heavyweight newcomer Patrick “HD” Barry. When SuckerPunch first declared that Barry would be the best and most athletic striker in the division before his debut at UFC 92 in December, the claim was met with little enthusiasm. But after his devastating TKO victory over Dan Evensen (due to leg kicks), fast-forward five months, and Barry has generated a buzz that has the media and fans eagerly anticipating his next fight.
“I am so excited to be in the UFC, and it’s so important for me to represent where I came from, to use this opportunity to be a positive influence on anyone that I can reach,” said Barry. “The best part in all this for me is going home to New Orleans and seeing how proud I have made the people that have supported me all these years. It’s my goal to continue to make them proud and represent NOLA to the fullest!”
Barry’s child-like enthusiasm for his opportunity to again perform in the UFC is infectious! But “HD” has eyes towards the future, after the final bell of his career. When he is done with fighting, Barry wants to get into motivational speaking, or become involved in some form of mentoring program. Not the typical tune that comes from someone who gets paid to beat people up. “To me it’s a sport… I have never gone into a fight angry or hating my opponent,” Barry said. But make no mistake, Barry is primed and ready to explode on the UFC’s heavyweight division. “All I know about the guy I’m fighting on the 23rd is that he looks like a brawler and that’s fine with me, let’s do it! I can’t wait!”

Pat, you’re looking indestructable in training. Everybody who talks to me as they come into the gym and watch you tells me that they have never seen anyone punch and kick as hard! as you do. I wish you could watch yourself and see the raw power! everyone gets to see. They ask me how the family feels and I tell them we are extremely proud that you’re getting the recognition you deserve and you truly are as athletic as you look. You look like a beast, a monster… no! a SUPERHERO! out there and yet you are still the hilarious guy that everyone wants to be friends with. I think it’s clear you are destined for greatness, Pat. You’ve accomplished so much already and you are still delivering pain to your opponents all these years later. I predict complete destruction from you onto the guy you’re fighting in UFC 98. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPE!!! A FEW TOES HAVE BEEN BROKEN BUY GUYS KICKING ME IN THE GROIN, DURING A FIGHT, OR AFTER WHEN I SEE THEM AGAIN! BUT REALLY, ONLY ONCE. RENE ROOSE BEAT MY LEG TO DEATH IN THE FIRST 3 MINUTE ROUND OF SPARRING WITH HIM. AND AFTER THAT ROUND I DID 7 MORE STANDING ON ONE LEG! I WAS OUT FOR 3 MONTHS WITH A SMALL TEAR IN MY QUAD. I remember when i met you, you were kickboxing. I saw the love you had for it back then eventhough at that time it was not your career. I am glad to see you have continued to grow and are embracing all of what comes your way. You have a huge heart and with that comes tremendous courage and fight. We both come from NOLA and are striving to put it on the map. It fills my heart with joy to see how you are repping our city and all of those children that look up to you. I know Patrick Barry personally! If Character, Nobility and Spirit where the criteria that determined a champion Patrick Barry deserved the Gold Medal World Championship a long time ago. I remember when you first started fighting and your brother Drew said “you watch, Pat is gonna make it big, your gonna see him on tv one day” and look where we are at!!!
