Matt Mitroine was hardly a sure thing. Picked next to last on Season 10 of the Ultimate Fighter and a polarizing, controversial figure throughout, Mitrione understands that winning on The Ultimate Fighter is only the beginning.
After a huge K.O. win over Marcus Jones, one of the favorites to win from the beginning and throughout the season, Mitrione is now eyeing his future as a Mixed Martial Arts professional in the UFC but that’s not all that this up and comer has on his plate. When asked what the latest happenings were in his life since defeating Marcus Jones at the TUF finale, Mitrione stated, “I have little kids and own a sports nutrition company that has kept me very busy since the show. We’re slammed right now.”
Mitrione said of his time on the show, “Yeah, that experience was the best and worst experience of my life.” He continues, “There was so much drama going on while I was on the show, a lot of what you see is manufactured, and a lot of it was me trying to play the game. While I was surrounded by all these great athletes and professionals, at times it did seem a bit like high school. The bottom line is the show’s over and I aint playin anymore.”
And what about the fireworks between himself and “Big Baby” and the opportunity to battle it out with his rival on the Season Finale? He says “Things got a little crazy on the show, but in my mind it really came down to winning. I’m laid back, I don’t hold any grudges. The fight with Marcus was just business, he was just an obstacle in the way of me pursuing my dream.” And what is that? “I want the belt. If your not going to compete to be the best, What’s really the point?”
To guide him in his new career Mitrione signed with Suckerpunch Entertainment a marketing and management company specific to the sport of MMA. When asked about his decision to go with SP Entertainment Matt said “It came down to Brian Butler and what he is about. He’s professional and knows how to market properly from his background in the marketing and advertising business. Me being a business owner myself, I really appreciate his approach.”
So what’s next for Mitrione? “Right now I’m taking care of babies!” he laughs. His kids could be heard playing in the background as we spoke ” I’ve got about another week of getting orders filled with my company and takings some time off with the family then it’s back to training with Chris (Lytle) and the rest of the guys at the gym.” And his next fight? “Don’t know yet, but I’ll fight whoever the UFC puts in front of me”
