TERREL IS BACK

Former WEC welterweight, Dave Terrel has gotten through injuries and set backs and is looking better than ever. We sat down and talked with him after his TKO victory over Brent Mehrehoff at XFO 31 on August 15th.

Q: Why have you been out for such a long time?

DT:I have had some injuries from being in a car accident and I have been focused on getting 100% healed from that. I can’t risk any losses due to me not being at my best so I’m just focused on being ready.

Q: You train with some of the best fighters in the country, who do you regularly work with?

DT: I have trained with pretty much everyone at Xtreme Couture but I work a lot with Stephen Bonnar. I’ve worked a little with Amir too.

Q: You seemed very confident before this fight, were you not worried about possibly being a little rusty?

DT: I just know what I can do and what I am capable of, I train hard enough to know that I should be able to handle myself in any show. I had it in my mind that i was going to KO or TKO my opponent and wanted to make sure my first fight back was impressive.

Q: What did you think about your performance that night?

DT: Honestly even though I TKO’d him in the first I felt like I could have done better. I think no matter what I do I will always think that.

Q: How did you feel about WEC cutting you after losing only one fight to Blas Avena?

DT: Obviously I wasn’t happy about it, I mean I only ost 1 of 3 with the WEC, but they have eliminated my division and I need to prove I can move up to the UFC’s elite so that’s what I’m going to do.

Q: Rumor has it you my consider dropping to 155lbs?

DT: I have been talking with my coaches and I think its something I can do. I like fighting at 170lbs but if the cut felt right I would be a big 155er. Depending on when my next fight is I may start a test cut to see how I feel before I take a fight.

Q: How do you feel you would stack up in the UFC’s or Strikeforces 170-155lb divisions?

DT: I feel confident that I can do well in either. I train and spar hard with a lot of the top guys in those shows already and I’m sure they would tell you themselves that I could be there.

Q: Who have you always wanted to fight?

DT: I’m not the type to call anyone out unless they piss me off and I will fight anyone you put in front of me it doesn’t really matter. But one guy that I wouldn’t mind slapping around is Kit Kope. He has done some things to my teammates and thinks he is the sh#t, I wouldn’t mind letting him know he isn’t.

Q: When are you fighting next?

DT: Hopefully in the next 2 months. I want to stay as active as possible.
